Breakfast at Mils. didn’t happen straight away: it all started with a small shop with a good selection of products (at least the delicious Italian muffins are sold here), its own cookery and bakery. 

A little later, the breakfasts appeared, and with them came the legendary cheesecakes. There are six of them in one serving: airy, light, decorated with berries, they leave no chance (impossible to resist).

The breakfast menu also includes toast, pancakes, shakshuka, French omelette, granola, croissants with avocado, Belgian waffles, porridge and pancakes with salmon. It works like this: you try everything, find your favourite dish and come back for it time after time. 

The guys have a delivery service: you can order both food from the shop and dishes from the breakfast menu.

Lowine

Lowine is equally good for a late night wine and an early morning breakfast (with a coffee or a glass of sparkling wine). 

It’s spacious, bright and really tasty. And if you can’t count on a hearty dinner at Lowine yet, you can count on a really good breakfast. The breakfast menu is quite large: there are all kinds of eggs, toast, pancakes and porridge. 

To order: 

• Scrambled eggs with Stracciatella cheese, cured ham (served with a charming bun and butter)

• Toast with roast beef, mustard cream, cherry tomatoes, lettuce and parmesan cheese

The most popular destination for early breakfast and coffee in Riga—Mulberry. They position themselves as a bakery and patisserie. For early risers it’s a place to taste one of the best and diverse breakfast offers in the whole of Riga, starting at 8am already. 

Menu offers a vast range of options for every taste and preference to choose from: Breakfast bruschetta and avocado, benedict with salmon, cottage cheese scones, oatmeal with berries, English breakfast and even ice cream pancakes.

Like a cherry on top of a cheesecake, this morning ritual can be finalized with Mulberries special desert. They prepare pasties, eclairs, honey cakes, lemon tarts and macaroons that will be tasty both for the tongue and eyes. 

Better Bread Lab

A new place from the people who created the eponymous gluten-free bakery Better Bread. In the “laboratory”—in addition to the usual pastries and desserts—full-fledged dishes are available, without which it is impossible to imagine any trendy breakfast: avocado toast with salmon, cheesecakes, granola and, of course, bread with butter. 

However, the author’s approach is felt in every dish here: granola made from green buckwheat, or cheesecakes are served with two toppings—sour cream and pear and ginger jam. You can also try oatmeal risotto with oyster mushrooms and Pecorino and bio eggs with cod mousse. 

It’s all delicious—and served on a blue platter. Literally. 

The space at Better Bread Lab is small, with only a few high tables inside. Prepare to wait a bit to get a coveted seat.

Breakfasts are served from 8:30am to 12am, lunches from 12:15 pm to 4 pm, and sandwiches are available all day.

Katkevich

Tucked away in Riga’s Maskavas area, just beyond the railway tracks, lies Katkevich. This charming cafe boasts emerald tiles, carved wooden chairs, and its own bakery. Freshly baked bread emerges daily from their ovens, a testament to both passion and knowledge.

Katkevich offers breakfast all day long (till 5pm).

Although it’s a small menu, the options are very eye-catching: Various special sandwiches with freshly baked bread, hummus, goat cheese and Katkevich special—caramelized butter. Different salad choices, large breakfast with a codename of “farmer’s breakfast” and even french onion soup for those very late mornings.

Katkevich

La Kanna Cafe

La Kanna is a small and cozy restaurant whose veranda blooms with flowers almost all year round. Inside the cafe resembles a haven for free artists: muted colors, semi-darkness, paintings on the walls. There are always a lot of people here—perhaps these are the artists. 

The breakfast menu is not very big, but it has some really interesting items. For example, they serve delicious salted cottage cheese with greens (which is quite a rarity).

Mr Bunny kitchen

Mr Bunny kitchen is about charm. It has a brightly coloured interior designed for a child’s perception and charming miniature desserts. Here it seems that you have briefly looked into a child’s universe—everything is real, but tiny. 

And so it is: the target audience of this place is children and their parents. But, admittedly, here we noticed solid men in suits finishing their morning portion of porridge. 

The menu includes shakshuka, omelet (with rainbow vegetables), porridge, toast, potato waffles, cheesecakes (there are 8 of them in one portion, but each cheesecake is no bigger than a little finger) and all kinds of eggs. The portions, contrary to expectations, are far from small.

Mīkla

/ For those who value good coffee and freshly baked pasties /

Mīkla—bakery and cafe for people who can’t imagine their breakfast without high quality coffee and fresh pasties enjoyed in a beautiful interior.

It always smells like the inside of a giant bun oven—a mixture of dough, powdered sugar, cinnamon and cardamom aromas. Mīkla proudly offers baked blueberry puffs, cardamom as well as cinnamon buns, almond croissants and a variety of sweet desserts with strawberry tarts among them. Since not everyone has a sweet tooth for breakfast, there’s also a selection of homemade sandwiches to choose from.

Innocent cafe

A while back, this coffee shop offered brunch, buffets, and pizza. However, in November 2023 it underwent a radical rebranding, and today Innocent Coffee Shop is about new coffee drinks, fresh baked goods and salads. In the warm season, there is a special menu: cold coffee, smoothies, cocktails and sun on the terrace.

We advise you to pay attention to sandwich buns with a variety of fillings, boules or croissants.

Mr. Fox is a simple and colorful place with a menu that matches the variegated looks of the interior.

Here you can find the classical offer for breakfast at Riga—toast with avocado, salmon or hummus. Healthy bowls, granola, waffles, pancakes, porridge and differently prepared eggs.

This place doesn’t need a name – a small cafe with large and nutritious breakfast deals and unusual options for tasty cocktails. 

Breakfast is served all day long here starting at 8:30am (9:30am on the weekends). Menu offers strawberry and avocado toasts, pancakes, scrambled eggs and waffles with a variety of options for toppings. Although everything here seems like worth giving a try, beware of the fact that size of a single portion is ginormous. Should be enough to last till the evening. Right on time to have one of their interesting cocktail options.
