Based on readers’ recommendations, we’ve selected seven hotels for a weekend around Riga. All but one are located in historic buildings in the centre. That (Jonathan Spa Estate) is located in a new wooden building outside the city.
Neiburgs Hotel
A family owned hotel is a historic family property. The Art Nouveau architectural gem built by Ludvigs Neiburgs in 1903 was originally not intended to serve as a hotel—it was a typical residential building from the early 20th century. During the Soviet occupation, it was transformed into a hotel for party officials and communal apartments. On the ground floor, a beer restaurant called “Pie Kristapa” was established.
After Latvia regained its independence, the Neiburgs family reclaimed their confiscated properties, and approximately 100 years after the building was constructed, the idea of converting it into a family-owned hotel and restaurant was born. This vision aimed to preserve the historical heritage while combining it with modern design.
Interior
The building has been meticulously restored, preserving the original features wherever possible – wooden parquet floors, windows, stair railings and doors, as well as wall and ceiling decorations. The room designs incorporate ornaments found in the original interiors of the building. The historical heritage has been tastefully enhanced with carefully selected designer furniture and interior items. The restaurant’s ceilings are adorned with unique Moooi Dear Ingo lamps, the library with impressive Zava Ociu ceiling lights, and the public spaces and apartments with Artemide floor lamps.
In the apartments and public areas of the hotel is displayed original artwork by Katrīna Neiburga, an internationally renowned video and installation artist, scenographer, and filmmaker, and a member of the Neiburgs family.
Amenities
In addition to staying in one of the design apartments, guests can rejuvenate in a small private spa or workout in the fitness room, enjoy a refreshing drink at the bar or a good book in the library, and have a delicious dinner at the Neiburgs restaurant, which is included in the Michelin Guide. For business needs, the hotel offers two equipped conference rooms, a business space with iMac computers and Wi-Fi.
In the spa center, several unique services are available by prior appointment: Baltic amber therapy and wrapping in latvian buckwheat honey.

Dome Hotel
Another hotel in Riga’s Old Town, this time in a 17th-century building. It was renovated by one of Latvia’s most famous architects, Reinis Liepiņš from Sudraba Arhitektūra, and designer Santa Meikulane from Lolot Design studio. The renovation of the hotel was preceded by lengthy archaeological work, during which fragments of the building were uncovered that are as old as the city itself: dating back to the early 13th century (the official founding year of Riga is 1201).
Interior
Over the centuries, the building has undergone several transformations, leaving traces of Baroque, Rococo and Classicism, as well as Art Deco and Art Nouveau. Some elements of these styles have survived to the present day and have been carefully restored. These include a beautiful 17th-century wooden staircase, as well as historic doors, windows and fragments of wall paintings. As much as possible, local materials and the skills of Latvian craftsmen have been used for the rooms.
Amenities
The hotel has 15 rooms and a fine French restaurant, Le Dome, with tasting sets and an à la carte menu. On the top floor there is a small Finnish sauna (available from October to April). It can accommodate a maximum of 2-4 people at a time, so as to respect guests’ privacy. There is also a steam room and a massage therapist’s room on the ground floor. The cigar lounge is another place to relax.
Konventa Sēta Hotel
This design hotel is located in the Old Town—in the unique historical architectural ensemble dating back to the 13th century, serving as a perfect hub for discovering Riga’s history, culture, and nightlife. It offers proximity to iconic landmarks like St. Peter’s Church, Riga Dome Cathedral, and the House of Blackheads, as well as most popular party places.
Interior
Hotel has modern, “clean” and bright interiors: large windows, noble wood parquet floors, natural colours that are pleasing to the eye, comfortable furniture with work and reading areas.
A significant number of rooms offer captivating views, allowing guests to savor the enchanting sights of the Old Riga streets or the serene hotel courtyard.
You have a variety of options to choose from, including suites and apartment-type rooms with kitchenette.

А22
In 1939, the young John F. Kennedy spent a week’s holiday in Riga. He could be found on Ausekļa Street, where the American Embassy was located at the time. Later, the US Embassy was moved to the western outskirts of the city and a commemorative plaque appeared on the facade of the original building. It is now the A22 Hotel— the most chic place to stay in Riga, according to YouTube channel JETSET TIMES.
Interior
The former embassy building and early 20th century American chic were the inspiration and starting point for the Latvian studio CBP Design. The interior design combines elements of Riga’s Art Nouveau and associations from the 1930s: many flowing lines, lots of brass, natural dark wood and marble. Historical elements have been carefully preserved: plaster and ceiling paintings have been restored and complemented with modern furniture and dark, neutral tones.
Amenities
It is a small hotel with a maximum capacity of 20 guests, but it is equipped with all possible facilities, including a gym, spa and conference room. The hotel has a 40-seat gourmet restaurant and a cocktail bar named “John and Jackie” in honour of the Kennedys.

The first five-star country hotel in Latvia. Located 87 kilometres from Riga near Amatciems, it is ideal for a short escape to nature. The landscaped terrace offers spectacular views of the surrounding lakes and forests.
Interior
The hotel is set in a new wooden building. The rooms are furnished in a minimalist style, but differ in decor. They are not numbered consecutively, but according to feng shui traditions: for example, for room 66, the number 6 symbolises “gold, wealth, abundance, home and family relations”. The room descriptions detail not only the design, but also the orientation of the space (most often east or north-east).

Grand Poet Hotel
The largest of the hotels represented here, it has 168 rooms, including a unique collection of 20 suites. The hotel is part of the Semarah Hotel Group, which also includes Lielupe Resort Hotel in Jurmala and Metropole Hotel in Riga. Since 2018, it has occupied the building opposite Bastejkalns hill, formerly home to the Ministry of the Interior.
Interior
The former ministerial building retains many unique details, from the tiled stoves to the historic wood carvings. The hotel’s interior concept emphasises the contrast between cultures and generations: the Swedish architects Stylt Trampoli and the Latvian studio Sarma & Norde have juxtaposed modern minimalist forms with the sophisticated decor of the past.
Amenities
There are many options for business meetings: several conference rooms, varying in capacity and equipment, and business breakfasts. In addition to the classic spa centre, the hotel has several types of saunas and swimming pools. The ground-floor SNOB restaurant serves European cuisine and the bar offers unique cocktails.
Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga
Kempinski, a member of a large international chain, is not only the first five-star luxury hotel in Latvia, but also a place with a special history. It is located between the Old Town and the Latvian National Opera. The Hotel Roma opened here in the 1880s, was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War and was rebuilt as a hotel during the Soviet occupation. It is believed that the first cocktail in the history of the USSR was served in this same hotel.
Interior
The main point of reference is the luxury of bygone eras: richly textured materials, top-quality furnishings and timeless details, including ornate mixers and bathrooms.
Amenities
The hotel offers 141 rooms to suit all tastes and requirements: you can choose from Superior rooms for two people, Deluxe and Opera Deluxe rooms for three people, Diplomatic rooms and Suites for four people. There are two lounges, including a cigar lounge, and two restaurants, on the roof and on the ground floor. The large spa complex in the basement offers a wide range of wellness programmes, including a real Latvian sauna with a birch broom.
