OPEN HOUSE RIGA TO TAKE PLACE FOR THE FIRST TIME
The international architecture and urban festival will open buildings and spaces across Riga that are usually not accessible to the public. Visitors will be able to explore them through guided tours with architects, designers and other experts.The Open House movement began in London in 1992 and has since expanded to more than 60 cities worldwide.

RIGA NAMED EUROPE’S MOST ACTIVE CITY
Riga recorded the highest total step count in the European “Walk for Your City!” challenge, with participants in the Latvian capital logging more than 134 million steps. Vilnius ranked second with 126.3 million steps, followed by Kaunas with 77.6 million. The challenge took place during European Mobility Week, with participants from 972 European cities collectively recording more than 1.3 billion steps. Riga and three other cities will be invited to an award ceremony in Barcelona during Tomorrow.Mobility.

10 NEW MOBILITY POINTS IN LATVIA’S CAPITAL
Ten new mobility hubs are planned near railway stations and major public transport nodes by 2029, with up to €26.63 million allocated for the projects. The new hubs are intended to improve connections between trains, public transport, cycling and walking. Plans also include bicycle parking, short-term parking and improvements to surrounding public spaces.

TENDER FOR PARKS AND GARDENS MAINTENANCE
Riga is preparing a new procurement for the maintenance of parks, gardens, squares and other public green spaces. The services will be divided into several geographical zones, allowing both larger and smaller companies to participate. New contracts are planned to take effect after the current agreement with Rīgas meži ends.

TALLINN AIRPORT TO EXPAND WITH €67 MILLION INVESTMENT
Tallinn Airport is preparing a major expansion of its passenger terminal. The project will add 16,500 m² of new space, while another 18,000 m² of the existing terminal will be renovated. The expansion is designed to increase the airport’s capacity to as many as five million passengers annually. Major construction work is expected to begin in early 2027.

SALASPILS OPENS NEW CONCERT HALL
A new concert hall has opened in the centre of Salaspils, transforming the former “Enerģētiķis” cultural centre into a contemporary venue for concerts and local cultural activities. The €18.5 million project includes a 500-seat main hall, a smaller hall named after Latvian poet Knuts Skujenieks and additional spaces for cultural activities. The project was financed entirely by Salaspils municipality.

LIDO REOPENS RENOVATED RESTAURANT IN TALLINN
The €900,000 renovation of LIDO’s Mustamäe restaurant has introduced a redesigned kitchen, updated interior and self-service buffet. The 613.8 m² space can accommodate up to 200 guests and includes two play areas.

MIERA REZIDENCES TO ADD 172 NEW HOMES IN RIGA
The €36.7 million Miera Rezidences project on Miera iela will feature 172 energy-efficient apartments developed in two phases. Designed by Tectum, the development will include a landscaped car-free courtyard and underground parking. The first phase is planned for completion in spring 2028.

BONAVA TO HOST ANNUAL HOUSING FAIR IN RIGA
The third annual housing fair will take place on October 1 at the Latvian Railway History Museum. Visitors will be able to explore Bonava’s residential projects, meet architects and other specialists, and get advice on home financing.

LATVIA NAMES ITS MOST ENERGY-EFFICIENT BUILDINGS
Four buildings took first place in this year’s national competition: Meža iela 18 in Jaunolaine, StokOfiss U34 and Grēdu iela 17 in Riga, and the Caljan facility in Liepāja. A total of 41 buildings were evaluated in the competition.
