A renovated building at Burtnieku iela 37 opens as Burtnieks—Rīga’s largest social services centre, offering support for children, youth, adults, and seniors under one roof. Services include group homes for people with mental disabilities, crisis shelter, rehabilitation programmes, and a community centre.

RĪGA PREPARES SHELTERS FOR 50,000 PEOPLE
The plan to establish 146 shelters in municipality-owned buildings, with the first shelters to be ready by the end of summer. This means that there will be enough space for only about 8% of the city’s population. The municipality also offers co-funding for creating shelters in residential buildings.

NEW RESCUE STATION OPENS AT VAKARBUĻĻI BEACH WITH BLUE FLAG STATUS
A new lifeguard rescue station opened at Vakarbuļļi on 28 May, alongside the 19th consecutive raising of the Blue Flag. The 116-square-meter rescue station features a ground floor for vehicles and equipment, and a second floor with a workspace and a observation terrace.

SCHWENK LATVIJA PLANS €500M CLIMATE-NEUTRAL CEMENT PLANT IN BROCĒNI
The first strategic climate-neutral industrial project in the Baltics. The €500 million investment will install carbon capture technology reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 800,000 tonnes annually. Completion is planned by 2032.

TALLINN RENOVATES LEMBITU PARK WITH ESTONIA’S FIRST SMART LIGHTING NETWORK
Tallinn will fully renovate Lembitu Park in the city centre, installing Estonia’s first multifunctional direct-current lighting network. The lighting poles will also charge scooters, bikes and potentially cars. The design by Eek & Mutso.

BORDO REZIDENCES MARKS TOPPING OUT IN TORŅAKALNS AHEAD OF YEAR-END DELIVERY
ASTOR Group celebrates the topping out of Bordo rezidences at Biešu iela 9 in Torņakalns, with construction on schedule for completion by end of 2026. The project delivers two energy-efficient buildings with 74 fully finished apartments.
