Zemgaliete
/ Pagan motifs on everyday clothes /
The authors of the brand work in Marupe and do not have an offline store, but they regularly update their online catalog on the Etsy marketplace.
When creating clothes, they use traditional folk ornaments that are common in the Baltic countries: moon, morning stars, signs of the god Perkonas and other patterns. In ancient times, these symbols served as amulets; they were applied to clothing and housewares to protect themselves from sinister forces or, on the contrary, to propitiate fate. For example, the mythological image of the star Auseklis is a symbol of the sun, which can protect from all sorts of bad things.
NOLO
/ Linen minimalism /
Linen is a traditional material of the Baltic region. For thousands of years the Baltic peoples have worn it and praised it in folk songs. This fabric is very comfortable to wear and has a variety of exquisite colors. That’s why today more and more brands are inventing clothes from linen, including the Riga-based brand Nolo.
They define their approach as “Scandinavian style combined with southern sophistication”. The result is minimalistic garments suitable for any occasion.

PEKLEstore
/ From the depths of Baltic folklore /
One more brand in which pagan motifs got a new interpretation. It was founded by Latvian artist Sindija Anča. In addition to T-shirts and jewelry, she creates elegant posters with portraits of Baltic gods and legendary scenes, and recently designed illustrations for an epic about Kurbad, a famous hero of Latvian fairy tales.
SandrasMagic
/ Ethnics in wool /
For over 10 years, Sandra Paegle’s brand has been developing knitwear and accessories that incorporate ethnographic patterns and natural landscapes of Latvia into scarves, dresses and sweaters. The products are made of 100% wool and are hand-woven. And some of them Sandra knits on a small hand knitting machine. She chooses yarns in shades close to Latvian landscapes: according to her, such threads are like an artist’s palette that can be painted like watercolors.

ROZENTHAL jewelry
/ Porcelain earrings and necklaces /

ROZENTHAL jewelry was founded in 2016 by Latvian ceramic designer Madara Rozentale. Her porcelain jewelry and objects are handmade in the footsteps of traditional ceramic craftsmanship. Although there are no direct references to ethnic symbols, their handmade and minimalist nature brings to mind traditional Latvian ornaments.
